and Heather Silcox first visited this area for a holiday in 1996. The following
year they left England and now live permanently in "Le Village du Bois"
with their two younger children, a horse, donkey, lamb, chickens, ducks,
two cats and a dog. Speaking both French and German they are on hand for
advice and to pass on their local knowledge. |

gite is the ideal base from which to discover the charm and beauty of
this area of unknown France. The World Heritage site of St Savin Abbey,
with its 12th Century frescoes (the oldest in Europe) is just 10 minutes
drive away, as is La Roche Posay - home to famous thermal springs, beauty
treatments, golf, horse racing, casino, cinema, colourful markets, and
charming medieval quarter.
ust
5 minutes by car will bring you to Angles sur l'Anglin, one of the most
beautiful villages in France; 15 minutes to the west is the medieval market
town of Chauvigny and within 40 minutes is the regional capital and ancient
cathedral city of Poitiers, with its famous Parc de Futuroscope. The Brénne
natural park (the land of a thousand lakes) is on the doorstep.
he
wildlife in this tranquil area is abundant and rewards the walker or cyclist
with sightings of red squirrels, hoopoes, buzzards and wild boar.
