Talmont-St-Hilaire
Le Village du Bois is located just a 5-minute drive from the historic town of Talmont-St-Hilaire, famous for its imposing Richard the Lionheart Chateau which was originally owned by the princes of Talmont and, from 1152-1204, by the English.
But that’s not all Talmont-St-Hilaire has to offer. The town’s attractions include a large leisure lake with good walks, an excellent children’s play area and a good windsurf/sailing school. There is a good variety of restaurants and shops as well as interesting and historic buildings.
Within Talmont and further afield, there are bustling markets and restaurants that serve classic French cuisine and the Vendée’s excellent local wines.
For groceries, there is a large Super U, a Lidl plus an open market in Talmont centre on several days of the week.
The Vendée area
With one of the sunniest climates in France, the Vendée is a favourite holiday destination for the French and other nationals who all flock here each year from around the world. They come to enjoy the 200 km of coastline – 140 km of which is fine sandy beaches sloping gently into the Atlantic Ocean – along with many areas of historical interest and natural beauty.
In addition to its classic holiday credentials, the Vendée has numerous small towns and villages that preserve the traditional French way of life. At the same time, it is a working coast. An array of picturesque fishing ports where mussels and oysters are brought in are complemented by modern marina ports bustling with restaurants and nightlife.
There is no shortage of activities for couples, families and friends of all ages to enjoy.
The southern Vendée
The southern Vendée, where Le Village du Bois is situated, offers quieter landscapes, marshlands,
wildlife, and a slower pace than its northern counterpart. Less built‑up, it has a distinctive “Green Venice” identity,
with boating canals, bird sanctuaries, and wide natural beaches.
